Whether you’re running an established nonprofit, or you’re just starting off, there’s no harm in taking a course or two on how to go about fundraising.

Although in the past, finding resources to learn about fundraising within your vicinity was a difficult task, but nowadays you can also find a number of easily completed courses on the internet for fundraising. Short courses usually last a few days in total, and you can find a number of them online, so you can do them from the comfort of your home without having to worry about setting aside your duties to travel to acquire skills.

Here are some of the best c0urses for helping you improve on your fundraising:

Fundraising and Development Specialization 

This course is offered by the University of California on Coursera, and lasts about 6 months if you spend 4 hours on it per week. Since the resources are all available to you, you can complete it faster if you like. The course offers four sections. You will be able to master the foundations of fundraising and development, learn how to build a case for support for your campaigns, developing gifts and engage potential donors, identify prospective donors and understand the importance of planned gifts.

Fundraising and Marketing: Building Nonprofit Capacity

This course is offered by Northwestern University, and lasts for 3 days. Though the course is not free to enroll into, it provides the crucial understanding of basic principles of fund generation techniques, and allows you to learn how to identify and assess your organization’s fundraising practices and culture. It teaches you how to rethink the strategies to engage with the donors and the role of marketing in it.

Nonprofit Ready

Nonprofit Ready is a website that allows you to build on different skills in various areas to help you learn how to go about fundraising effectively. The courses are in the form of videos that you can watch at your own discretion whenever you have time, and all you need to do is sign up for a free account. The videos are brought to you by experts in the fundraising field and talk about various topics from how to start a nonprofit, to the crucial details such as nonprofit finances and strategy development.

Fundraising Strategies

Offered by Philanthropy University on classcentral, this course is a five week long course with a required input of about 1-2 hours per week. It helps you look at your organization from the eyes of your funders to be able to get a better idea of how to strengthen it. It will allow you to consider different strategies of fundraising along with a hands-on project of planning a small-scale fundraising event.  There are four modules to the course, each talking about and teaching a different vital skill to running your nonprofit efficiently. The course is free and provides a certificate upon completion.
